How Gebruiktspeelgoed Is Growing: More Parts, More Sets, More Social Impact

Gebruiktspeelgoed is growing as both a second-hand LEGO store and a social meeting place in Genemuiden. With a rapidly expanding assortment and increasing social impact, our concept continues to bring together creativity, sustainability and connectio

At Gebruiktspeelgoed, growth is about much more than adding more LEGO to our shelves.
Of course, we are proud that our store is growing in numbers, in variety and in visibility. But what matters even more to us is how that growth takes shape: through meaningful work, social connection, community involvement and a place where people feel welcome.

What started as an idea with social value and a love for second-hand LEGO is continuing to develop into something bigger. Step by step, Gebruiktspeelgoed is becoming a place where creativity, sustainability and care come together.

A store that keeps growing

Behind the scenes, our assortment has grown enormously. At this moment, we offer 84,394 LEGO parts in our store, divided across 1,957 unique lots. That means our collection is becoming more complete, more interesting and more useful for LEGO fans, builders and collectors looking for exactly the right piece.

The diversity in our inventory is something we are especially proud of. We currently have LEGO available in 66 different colours. Some colours are naturally more common than others. Red is by far the most represented colour in our assortment, with 21,074 parts, while Medium Green is currently the rarest, with only 2 parts available.

These figures say something important: our store is no longer just a place with “a bit of second-hand LEGO.” It is growing into a serious and increasingly rich collection of parts, colours and possibilities.

More than 20 product categories

Our growth is also visible in the breadth of what we offer. We now sell products in more than 20 different categories, making our shop attractive to many different types of LEGO enthusiasts.

Whether someone is looking for LEGO Technic, BrickLink Designer Program, LEGO City, LEGO Friends, or other themes and product types, our assortment continues to expand. This variety matters, because it means more people can find something that connects with their interests, their projects or their memories.

Some customers are searching for a specific part to complete a set. Others are looking for inspiration, building materials, themed sets or simply the joy of browsing through a store filled with possibilities. By continuing to expand our categories, we make Gebruiktspeelgoed more relevant to all of them.

Growth in the store also means growth in opportunity

What makes Gebruiktspeelgoed truly special is that the growth of the shop is directly connected to people.

More and more residents of ’t Kastheel are now working in the store. That is something we are incredibly proud of. The shop is not only a place where LEGO is sorted, checked, photographed and sold; it is also a place where people can participate, develop skills, experience structure and contribute in a meaningful way.

For some residents, the store offers a safe and practical work environment. For others, it is a place to build confidence, learn routines, interact with customers or discover talents they may not have seen in themselves before. Every new task, every sorted part, every finished order and every conversation at the counter contributes to something bigger.

That is exactly what Gebruiktspeelgoed stands for: a place where value is created in more than one way.

A local place where people like to stop by

Another beautiful development is what is happening in and around the physical store itself. More and more local people are visiting us — not only to shop, but also to connect.

People drop in for a chat, for a cup of coffee, to talk about LEGO, to share their passion, or simply because they enjoy the atmosphere. That may sound small, but for us it is hugely important. It shows that Gebruiktspeelgoed is becoming more than a store. It is growing into a welcoming meeting place in Genemuiden.

That social aspect fits naturally with who we are. LEGO has a unique way of bringing people together. It sparks memories, creativity, curiosity and conversation. In our store, that often leads to real encounters between people who might otherwise never have met.

A local customer may come in looking for a part and end up in a conversation about childhood sets, favourite themes or current building projects. A resident working in the shop may proudly help someone find what they need. These moments are simple, but they are exactly what makes a place feel alive.

Sustainability with real meaning

At the heart of Gebruiktspeelgoed is also a very practical form of sustainability. We believe that LEGO deserves a long life. By giving second-hand LEGO a new chance, we help reduce waste and show that quality toys can continue to bring joy for many years.

But our idea of sustainability goes further than just reusing products. We also believe in social sustainability: creating places where people matter, where talents are seen, and where care and participation are connected to something real and visible.

Every part that is sorted, every set that is prepared for sale and every order that leaves the store is part of a wider story. It is not just about commerce. It is about circular thinking, meaningful activity and building something valuable together.

Growing support from the local community

We also notice that our role in the local community is becoming more visible. The municipality of Zwartewaterland has shown real enthusiasm for what Gebruiktspeelgoed and ’t Kastheel are contributing to Genemuiden. They see the value of a place like this within society and are actively thinking with us about how cooperation can be strengthened and how even more people can benefit from a place within our concept.

That kind of support means a lot to us. It confirms that what is happening here is not only meaningful within the walls of the shop, but also relevant for the wider community. We are building something that connects people, creates opportunities and adds social value in a very concrete way.

More than a LEGO store

When people first hear about Gebruiktspeelgoed, they often think of a second-hand LEGO store. And yes, that is certainly part of who we are. But anyone who looks a little closer will see that it is also much more than that.

It is a place where second-hand LEGO gets a new future.
It is a place where residents of ’t Kastheel can grow through meaningful work.
It is a place where local people walk in for connection and conversation.
It is a place where social impact and entrepreneurship reinforce each other.

That combination is what makes our growth so meaningful.

Looking ahead

We are proud of where we stand today, but we also see this as only the beginning. Our assortment is growing. Our team is growing. Our role in the community is growing. And our ambition to make a positive difference continues to grow with it.

With 84,394 parts, 1,957 unique lots, 66 colours, and more than 20 product categories, the numbers already tell a powerful story. But the real story is about people: about participation, encounters, shared passion and building something together that matters.

That is how Gebruiktspeelgoed is growing.
Not only in parts and sets — but in social value, connection and impact.
